Diesel is proud to partner with Tom of Finland Foundation on their third annual Pride collaboration, coinciding with Tom of Finland Foundation’s 40th anniversary.

The 2024 Diesel x Tom of Finland Foundation Pride collaboration is a multi-faceted project that includes a capsule collection, an emerging erotic artist competition and a series of global events, marking four decades of preserving and promoting the iconic legacy of Tom of Finland.

The celebration, supported by Diesel, kicked off with the annual Tom of Finland Art and Culture Festival, held for the first time in Berlin's legendary Halle am Berghain. The program of exhibitions and performances continued then in Fire Island, NY, other events will then occur during Helsinki Pride, an exhibition at Diesel art Gallery in Tokyo later in July, and to conclude in Los Angeles at Tom’s house later this year.

The 2024 Diesel x Tom of Finland Foundation Pride capsule collection amplifies the message of freedom of expression, sexuality and individualism that has always been a key pillar for Diesel. Specifically designed to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, the capsule features the work of artists including Stuart Sandford, Suzanne Shifflett, Tank, the Hun, Valentine, Henning von Berg and Tom of Finland. Applied as prints and patchworks on the capsule's 24 pieces, the selected artwork reflects important voices from Tom of Finland Foundation’s four decades of preserving the work of queer artists, many of whom have faced discrimination and misrepresentation due to the nature of what they create.

Each garment is trimmed with a special canvas tape printed with a quotation from the artist. The capsule’s prints draw from a broad range of styles of erotic art, including the Hun’s homoerotic illustrations and comics that appeared in beefcake magazines in the 60s, and Tank’s color-saturated photo prints of American cowboys. Before Henning von Berg became known as a fine art photographer specializing in erotic scenes, such as American western nudes, he was an architect and civil engineer. Painter and tattoo artist Suzanne Shifflett specializes in depictions of gender non-conformity. Stuart Sandford contributed polaroids of gay men.

ABOUT TOM OF FINLAND FOUNDATION

Tom of Finland Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1984 by Durk Dehner and Tom of Finland. As Tom had established worldwide recognition as the master of homoerotic art, the Foundation's original purpose was to preserve his vast catalog of work. Several years later, the scope was widened to offer a safe haven for all erotic art due to rampant discrimination against art that portrayed sexual behavior or generated a sexual response. Today, Tom of Finland Foundation continues to educate the public about the cultural merits of erotic art and promote healthier, more tolerant attitudes about sexuality.
