Maison Margiela unveils its first-ever Chinese Lunar New Year collection, taking the theme of "The Renewal," celebrating the Year of the Snake. This special collection reimagines the snake motif through the shifting phases of the moon.
Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Spring Festival, celebrates the beginning of a new year. Rooted in the ancient origins of the lunar calendar, time was traditionally recorded by the moon's cycles—each 15-day phase representing a full cycle. The first cycle of the year symbolizes a new beginning filled with hope for the future: the first day of the lunar month marks the new moon, while the fifteenth day represents the full moon. The house captures the lunar transformations, weaving its auspicious symbolism with the profound ties between vision and reality, moon and earth, dreams and the passage of time.

This special collection features three items—a hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt, and a printed silk scarf. The hooded sweatshirt and T-shirt are printed with the theme of "The Renewal", with the Chinese character for "snake" intricately embroidered within a full moon motif. The silk scarf draws inspiration from the traditional board game "Snakes and Ladders": surrounded by lunar phases, a winding snake ascends a ladder, offering a playful interpretation of aspiration and hope.
This collection is now available in the Maison Margiela offline boutiques and official e-commerce site.
